Cubes/Rectangular Prisms

CONCEPTS

Rectangular Prism Properties

• Surface Area = 6 * l * w (l = length, w = width)

• Volume = l * w * h (l = length, w = width, h = height)

PRACTICE PROBLEMS

Question 1 Given leg lengths of 2, 5, & 8 for a rectangular prism. How the does volume change if the legs each increase by 20%?

-- Answer -- 148

2 * 1.2 * 5 * 1.2 * 8 * 1.5 vs 2 * 5 * 8

V = 120, 3A = 148

Question 2 Given a volume of 16 for a cube, what is the surface area?

-- Answer -- 6 * 16^2/3

6 * 16^2/3

Question 3 Given the surface area of a cube = 24, what is the surface area for 1 face of the cube?

-- Answer -- 4

6 surfaces on a cube -> 24 / 6 = 4
