Circle Properties and Angles

CONCEPTS

Tips

• Central angle of a circle is proportional to the perimeter or area for a sector

EXAMPLE

• Central angle (θ) = 360° * circumference of sector / circumference of circle)

PRACTICE PROBLEMS

Question 1 A circle with radius 10 cm is divided into 3 congruent arcs. What is the length, in centimeters, of each of the 3 arcs? (keep answer in terms of π)

-- Answer -- 20π/3 cm

C = 2 π r = 2 * π * 10 cm = 20 π cm

The circle is equally divided into 3 arcs => each arc length = 20π/3 cm

Question 2 Angle A measures (9/2) π radians from it’s initial side to its terminal side. Angle B has the same initial side and terminal side as Angle A. What a the measure of Angle A between 45° and 135°?

-- Answer -- 90°

(9/2) π = (1/2) π + 4 π

(1/2) π = 90°
