Cubes/Rectangular Prisms
CONCEPTS
Rectangular Prism Properties
• Surface Area = 6 * l * w (l = length, w = width)
• Volume = l * w * h (l = length, w = width, h = height)
PRACTICE PROBLEMS
Question 1 Given leg lengths of 4, 5, & 6 for a rectangular prism, what is the volume? What is the surface area?
-- Answer -- V = 120, SA = 148
V = l * w * h = 4 * 5 * 6 = 120
sA = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh = 2* 4 * 5 + 2 * 4 * 6 + 2 * 5 * 6 = 40 + 48 + 60 = 148
Question 2 Given a volume of 40 and leg lengths of 10 & 2. What is the 3rd leg length?
-- Answer -- 2
V = 40 = lwh = 2 * 2 * h = 40 => h = 2
