Create Graphs or Figures

CONCEPTS

Create Graphs or Figures

• Understand the type of plot that can be made – frequency plot, y vs x plot. Is a shape being plotted?

EXAMPLES

• Given 10, 20, 10, 20, 10, 20, 10, 10 –> Type of graph? => Histogram / frequency plot

• Plot: When 0 < x < 2, y = 4, & when 2 < x < 4, y = 6 => y vs x plot

PRACTICE PROBLEMS

Question 1 The rental fee for using a hall is $500. For every 20 meals purchased, the fee is reduced by $100. What graph below represents this?

-- Answer -- It says that rental fee is reduced by $100 for each group of 20 meals meaning that the rental fee will be $500 if you order 1 to 19 meals, but will be reduced by $100 to $400 one you order 20 meals. Then, if you order 20 to 39 meals, the rental fee would still be $400 until you order 40 meals where the rental fee will be reduced again by $100 to $300 and so on.

Question 2 The difference 3/5 + 1/3 lies in which interval graphed on a number line

-- Answer -- 0.8 < 14/15 < 1

3/5 + 1/3 = 9/15 + 5/15 = 14/15

14/15 = 1 - 1/15 => 14/15 < 1

4/5 = 0.8 => 0.8 < 14/15 < 1
