• When comparing shapes, they are typically related by a ratio or a %


EXAMPLES

• The ratio of the area of the larger cube to the smaller cube is 2 : 1

• The larger cube is 50% larger than the smaller cube

PRACTICE PROBLEMS

Question 1 A square and a rectangle have the same area. The length of the rectangle is 32 cm and the width is 2 cm. What is the length, in cm, of a side of a square?


-- Answer -- 8

Area of rectangle = l * w = 32 * 2 = 64

Area of square = l * l = 64 => l = 8
